My Mother was a Scillonian - Beatrice Routley, the daughter of William Mumford, Bay View. I have many relatives and friends still going strong, including Rodney Ward, Arthur Williams, Gilbert Pender. Wrote... How I would like to be able to return annually to the Scillies like so many that frequent your guestbook. My first visit was in 1997 for 2 weeks ( 1 week on St Marys followed by a week on St Martins)& I'll be returning next March for a month. I have family history connections through my father's Gibson/Tregarthen line. I went,a few years ago with my husband, to St Martins for a camping holiday. It was a lovely peaceful time despite some drizzly rain. We are going back again this year as it is a completely different way of life on the islands. this time we hope the weather is a bit better!!!

My first visit was in 1980 or 81 with Reg Thomas to meet Fred and Hilda and many other Scillonians for the first time. With only two exceptions, I have returned every year and I can truly say I have seldom met better people. There really is something different about islanders and I know because I am originally from Newfoundland. The stories and memories I have of the Scillonians I have known so well over the years would fill many more pages but those will have to wait for another time. For now, thank you all for making each of my visits a "return home" and I will see you again this year.

Its amazing how often you meet up with people who have been to Scilly. And also amazing how many people do not know where Scilly is. I would recommend Lyonnesse Guest House ,where my friend and I were fed wonderful food and entertained by Melanie last October. Also we had marvellous weather.

Spent just 4 wonderful days visiting the islands with 6 yr old Alex in December 1998. Fallen in love with Scilly, can't wait to return with the rest of my family. Just returned from the Scillies where we spent a wonderful Christmas and New Year. We thought we were lucky being there for the eclipse, so this was a real bonus. Greetings from the small and boring town Waco! I haven't actually visited the Scilly Islands but I really would like to. The fact is, in 1989 or 1990, the island scenes in the movie "Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was filmed on the Scilly Islands and real British actors have actually walked the beaches of the island. Cool huh? =o). Richard Dempsey and Jonathan R. Scott are fine actors! I love the British accent! If anybody finds any website or links to these two actors, would you please write me and let me know? My Grandfather was born in Hugh Town, St.Marys and we spent our 25th anniversary in the Islands mainly to check our family history. We were totally hooked and have been back every year since and twice in one year. The Islands are totally in our blood. Every year we spend about fifty weeks thinking about the Islands and planning our next visit. Thank You for making this excellent site available. Am another long term visitor to the Islands - 16 years - and really can't see my self ever missing my annual visit. . . . . .With windsurfing, fishing and beach-football followed by beers in the Mermaid it really is a great place. . . . .It surely has the best beaches in the world and the air is so fresh. . . . . .Has anyone else windsurfed St Mary's to St Agnes, downed a pint in the Turks Head then sailed back? . . . .Does the Island's new Indian Restaurant and the increase in cars spell the end of the Scilly's 'get-away-from-it-all' image? . . .I doubt it.

Just returned from a week on the Scillys. My first time, throuoghly enjoyed it. A bit rough on the flight back, but it was gale force winds!! Throughly enjoyed visiting St. Agnes and Tresco, I'm only 21, but wasn't bored at all. Did find it quite expensive over there. Will return again soon. Stayed in Spanish Ledge, Hugh Town on St. Mary's very comfortable and plesant flat.

we have a little girl with severe learning disabilities, and tuberous sclerosis. looking after her is a full time job, our week's break in the islands over the past few years is what recharges our batteries. Paradise on earth, we look out of our bedroom window each morning, and can usually make out the islands , from where we live. Just returned from a wonderful week on Scilly. Showed my husband my favourites beaches and celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary there. I visited these wonderful islands on a sailing trip, and i have to say that the Scilly islands have the nicest weather i have ever seen in England!!!! It took us all of 36 hrs no-stop sailing to get there but when we did it was worth the wait. Why does everyone drive Reliant Robins???? Ohhh well. Lovely scenery and the best cream tea anywhere.

I stayed with the Banfields above their shop in Church St for 3 days and had a wonderful time wandering around the Islands, and finding where my ancestors were buried in the Old Town Cemetery. My grandma was born at St Mary's and emigrated with her family about 1874. Her name was Evelyn Honfield Woodcock. Our other family names are Treweek, Legg, & Banfield. My stay with Rodger and Kathy Banfield was the first visit of a member of the family who emigrated to NZ in 120 years. One day I will return to the Islands where I felt I was 'Returning Home'. I have been coming to the Isles of Scilly since 1990 and am absolutely hooked on the place. One of my hobbies is photography and I have had many of my photographs of the islands published in newspaper travel supplements, etc.. Great to see that Scilly has a web site. I was raised at Old Town on St.Marys. Attended Carn Thomas (1954-60) and Truro School (1960-65). My parents, Geoff and Ida Jenkins, brother Peter, sister Gillian and I lived at Ennor House. Mother and father sold the house in 1976 and moved to Cornwall. I was blessed with an idyllic childhood, growing up on the islands.Shrimping,fishing,swimming at Old Town. Cream teas at Lily Ashford's tea shop. I remember many summer afternoons spent tying tin cans on the back of Vic Trenwith's tour buses while the drivers pointed out features such as Pulpit Rock, Schiller Memorial and the Australian burning bush. My wife Mary Lynn and I have lived in western Canada since 1981. We have our own environmental consulting company, providing consulting services to oil companies and industrial clients. It's interesting how the wheel is coming full-circle, from collecting scrap metal and pop bottles as a kid, I now advise clients on recycling, waste management and design of landfills. Took a quick trip to Scilly in September 1998, first trip for 20 years. Many changes. We know they had many friends around the world who have fond memories of them and we would like to try and compile a book of friends, anecdotes, tapes (especially of some of the musical evenings at various localities -pubs!), scillonian entertainers, photos (to copy and return, or can down line to the writer's email address). Congratulations on your website. My Mother and I are planning to visit Scilly in September or October,(after about 30 years when we used to spend all my childhood summer holidays along with the Midgley and Leach families) and will be staying on St. Mary's and Tresco, while spending time with Mary Evans who lives in St. Martins. I have just read your article in The Christchurch Press newspaper, and tears sprang to my eyes as I remembered & reminised about the 11 adorable years that I & my family holiday'd On Tresco. From when I was 5 to my last visit at the age of 16 we had a 2 week holiday, usually on Tresco, and usually at Spring bank holiday. Tresco was such an ideal place to have holidays, full of fun & excitement. Alas now I live at the other side of the world, and although my family talk of a big family reunion in the Scilles, I don't think this will be in the near future - travelling to the UK with 3 under 5's is a pretty daunting thought aswell as pretty expensive, but my dream wont ever be extinguished & one day I will make it back. Would love to visit some day. I have a summer cottage on an island off the coast of Maine - size about 135 acres. There are about 105 cottages, Town hall, Post office, Library, chapel, a mostly granite shoreline and 3 sandy beaches. Two trucks - NO cars!!

Hello fellow web pagers!we agree with most of the comments about the islands and we are really looking forward to our return holiday in August.I personally found that from my first visit on a day trip on the Scillonian with my two children in tow that the islands had something special about them that made me want to return.On that trip I think it was the lack of traffic that I found made me more relaxed with two toddlers in tow.There is almost something magical about the place generally. The peace and quiet while walking across St.Mary's was a revelation to a city dweller like me. Looking forward to my next meal at the Tolman Cafe in August. Hi to Judi and Don. I try and visit Scilly as often as possible unfortunately with work commitments that is only twice a year. I have been coming to Scilly for 15 years and a couple of years ago our friends bought Trelawney on St Martins which is where we now stay. We used to stay on Tresco but we found that it was more and more being turned into a business and loosing it's unique atmosphere. St Martin's is idyllic and has all of the Scilly charm. I hope one day to continue our tradition and bring my family to Scilly.
