In his valedictory speech Ken paid tribute to the "friendliness and team spirit of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, emphasising the strength of a company that pulls together."In response, Mike Hicks thanked Ken, and, in particular, praised him for steering the company through the Investors in people Programme awarded in 1995 and re-awarded in June 1998. Mike described the two awards as "major achievements involving a great deal of hard work and dedication."
In his retirement Ken expressed the "hope to play more golf and reduce my handicap." He will continue to live with his wife Corinna at McFarland Downs on St. Mary’s. Before joining the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, Ken was manager of the Tresco Estate.
