It has become an overgrowing event in the world of watersports - the World Pilot Gig Championship around the Isles of Scilly. On the first weekend in May it changed Holgates Green and The Strand into a colourful parade of altogether 56 gigs.
To join Scillonians and to take part in their the ninth gig-race competition they had come over from Cornwall, Devon, the Netherlands, the Faeroe Islands, and even the USA.
